The Three Pillars of Exposure: Aperture, ISO, Shutter Speed

  Picture in f/2.8

Picture in f/16
1. The part of the human body closely related to the aperture is the pupil.
2. The smaller the aperture opening, the higher the aperture number.
3. The smaller the aperture number(larger opening) the more the foreground and background  are in focus, The larger the aperture number(smaller opening) the more you just focus on the foreground.
 Slow shutter speed
Fast shutter speed
1. Slow, medium, or fast:
Reasonable Light:
a.)fast
b.)fast
c.)slow
d.)slow
e.)long

f.)long
2. Shutter Speed Settings-

  • Slow
  • Fast
  • Long

ISO 6400

ISO 200

1. A higher ISO makes it so the camera takes in more light, making it good when there is little light, such as at a football game at night.
2. Try to use low ISO more often in well lit areas.
3. High ISO should be used in dim lit or dark areas.

F4- 1/60 clear and bright
F5.6- 1/30 clear and bright
F8- 1/15 blurry and bright
F11-1/15 blurry and dim
F16-1/8 very blurry and dim
F22-1/8 very blurry and very dim

Great Black and White Photographers Pt. 3

1.What first caught my eye about the photographers photos was the live war scenes depicted. The emotion was also very strong in many of his pictures.
2. I see... a massive explosion right up a head. And another, all around me all I can see for miles is bodies, soot, and more explosions.
I smell... Gunpowder and blood, shots being fired all around, bodies strewn across the battlefield. My nose if filled with the stench of death. Of war.
I hear... yelling and screaming..."BOOM!" . A giant explosion has left me temporarily deaf. All I can hear now is ringing.
I taste... a johnny cake, as I take rations and supplies from fallen soldiers. They wont be needing it anymore.
I feel... helpless as my fellow comrades fall to the ground before my very eyes. I feel defeated, for the enemy has taken my kin.
I see... a squad of soldiers on point, ready to fire. I also see a fallen soldier lying lifeless.
I smell... the burnt flesh of my own as well as the enemy. I smell gunpowder and sulfur lingering in the air.
I hear... soldiers screaming for help. I hear leaders yelling commands and i hear the cries of those who have lost someone dear to them.
I taste... a metallic taste in my mouth. Blood. I must have been shot because I am now bleeding profusely.
I feel... overwhelmed, I didn't sign up for this! They got me with the draft!
3. I would like to build a poster to show the great piece of imagery captured by this artist.

Academics Shoot

*THESE PICTURES ARE NOT MY OWN. I DID THIS FROM HOME AND DID NOT HAVE THE PICTURES EVEN TAKEN YET. *

Balance:
1. I think I followed the rule pretty well, there are three fruits here that balance each other out in kind of a triangle.
2. The subject is a couple of fruits just chilling.
3. I believe the subject should be pretty clear to some one looking at the picture.
4. I could have took the picture myself.

Framing:
1.The rule was followed very well, there is a nice rock border around the foci of  the ocean.
2. The subject is a beautiful view.
3. I think the subject can easily be deducted from the picture.
4. I could have took the picture myself.

Lines:
1. The rule was followed quite well, this picture is a great representation of incorporating lines into a picture.
2. The subject is a library.
3. Yes anybody can see that.
4. I could have took the picture myself.

Avoiding Mergers:
1. The rule was broken quite well, it seems as though the pole is coming out of her head.
2. The subject is a girl posing with a merger in the background.
3. I'm sure many people can deduct that from this picture.
4. I could have took the picture myself.

Rule of Thirds:
1. I think the rule was followed really well, the focus of the picture( the tree) is in the bottom right corner of where a grid would be. It draws nice focus to the tree.
2. The subject is a beautiful sunset with a tree in the middle of water.
3. I think someone would mainly think the subject is the beautiful sunset when in fact it is mainly the tree.
4. This picture would be better if i took it myself.

Simplicity:
1. I believe the rule was followed very well, there is a solid background with one object as the focus.
2. The subject of this picture is a book.
3. Seeing as it is the only thing seen in the picture I believe the subject can quickly be detected.
4. This picture would be better if I took it myself.

Africa

1. All of these pictures are stunning, they are perfect moments in time caught by a great photographer.
2. My favorite picture is the one with the lion and lioness nudging each other .

3. In the picture the mighty lion is showing his affection to a lioness or perhaps even a cub. It is my favorite picture because of the strong emotion captured.
4. A) Nick Brandt uses a Pentax 67II
    B) He takes these photos to show animal beauty and so people can see what they are helping kill with all of there poor choices.
    C) He hopes that people will see his pictures and want to change in a positive manner that will help the animals.
D)"I'm not interested in creating work that is simply documentary or filled with action and drama, which has been the norm in the photography of animals in the wild. What I am interested in is showing the animals simply in the state of Being. In the state of Being before they are no longer are. Before, in the wild at least, they cease to exist. This world is under terrible threat, all of it caused by us. To me, every creature, human or nonhuman, has an equal right to live, and this feeling, this belief that every animal and I are equal, affects me every time I frame an animal in my camera. The photos are my elegy to these beautiful creatures, to this wrenchingly beautiful world that is steadily, tragically vanishing before our eyes."

Academic Shoots Reflection

1. It was hard at times to get the photos I needed because a lot of the time teachers wouldn't let me in their classroom or I just couldn't find something to fit the rule well enough.
2. I found myself thinking about the lens clarity a lot, adjusting the two different parts of it to focus correctly on my subject.
3. If I could do the assignment again, I would probably have a lot better examples,  I wasn't exactly clear on what all the rules meant when I went out to shoot.
4. I would go to the same places I did, I believe the fine arts building has a lot of photographic potential so I would definitely go back there.
5. I think when i go out the easiest rule to achieve will be the rule of thirds, because you can take a picture of anything and as long as it is in one of four spots on the photo then you follow the rule of thirds.
6. I think the hardest rule to capture is balance. You have to take a picture at the right moment for it to have balance.
7. I'm still not totally clear on balance, i can look at more pictures that are examples of balance to figure it out.

Action and Emotion
The action shown in this picture is an experiment gone haywire but I believe the emotion his happiness and surprise.
Filling The Frame
The frame is filled with a group of kids doing some sort of experiment, the picture is very busy.

Best Story
I think this picture tells the story of two kids who appreciate there teacher and are showing there gratitude.

I picked this photo because it looks really cool, and i love me some bass.
There is definitely a lot of focus in this photograph.
I could take similar photos in my own school in the art room .
I would like to visit the engineering classroom and take pictures.
I will incorporate picture taking techniques in order to have better photographs.

Photo Manipulation and Ethics

The main point of the article is that true pictures are the best pictures. Doctoring a picture might make it seem more appealing but if its not real its a lie. Doctoring a photo can result in bad credit as a photographer.
I think this type of editing is unethical because it is not the truth and you can just turn anything into a false story.
I believe this photo manipulation is the most unethical because it is trying to make you think this soldier is pointing the gun at this innocent man and his child. The editor of this photo was trying to provoke the viewer.

I think this photo is the least unethical because all the editor did was add an extra missile, sure he tried to spice it up but whats one more missile when there is already 3.

National Geographic Warm-Up

I chose this picture because it look so phenomenal. I have never seen anything like it. The sunset almost look painted on and the smoke in the wind makes the sky just look insane.

If I were to take a picture f my world i think it would be a picture of me running through a crowd walking in the opposite direction.

40 Greatest Photos Reflection

I picked this photo because I am very close to my animals as well. The holes leading up to the grave draw my attention the grave. I think this is in the 40 Most Powerful Photos because it shows a lot of emotion.
I picked this photo because the focus really stands out and uses framing with the riot policeman. I believe this photo is in the Top 40 Most Powerful Photos because it evokes a strong feeling of intimacy.
I like this photo because it shows rebellion. There is lines in this photo as well as good balance. This picture is most like in the Top 40 Most Powerful Photos because its such an intense stare-down.
